25 year-old British designer Katie Eary has based her MA collection around the traditional shapes of formal menswear and ostentatious military wear worn for special occasions, giving it a contemporary twist by applying these pageantry details to more street-wear shapes.
Classic tailoring in menswear is her passion. Shape and silouhette her strength and so she incorporates this into contemporary tailoring using architectural methods of construction…

“Menswear is more fun to play with! I believe that men invented ‘feminism’ but disguised this word as dandy or fopp. We all have it in us to dress up, but in human nature it is always the males who are far more grandiose and beautiful than the female. Its just that since the Victorian era mens fashion became to a slave to ‘making things easier.’ How did we go from the beautifully tied cravat to a tie with elastic hidden under the collar?… From beautiful dinner/evening shirts to ‘non crease no need to iron ever again shirts’. Its like we are starting again and introducing more and more glamour and beauty into menswear, Hence why i consistently go for military looks as the uniform is such a stunning piece of work, and the higher ranking you are the more glamourous the uniform. It’s all so exciting, and I want to contribute…”
Tom Munro, famous English photographer, collaborated with and directed Madonna’s music video ‘Give it to Me‘, the success of which led to him directing a second video ‘Die Another Day‘ and shooting the Tour Book for Madonna’s “Sticky and Sweet” World Tour.
