Here is the most talked spread of the month: Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone, the Sicilian mechanic who favors grease-stained t-shirts and cigarettes tucked behind the ear, in “Homeboy’s Don’t Smile” photographed by Nick Knight and styled by Nicola Formichetti for Vogue Hommes Japan Vol. 5.
“Fashion is very good at providing its own fashion’s-eye view of proceedings, but what is it like being at the very eye of that fashion storm, the undeniable focus of the world’s attention?”
V Magazine is sharing an advance preview of Lady Gaga gracing the cover of V Magazine issue #67: “The New York Issue”, which features fashion and art in the most exciting city on Earth! Music legend Lady Gaga poses as the Statue of Liberty alongside designer Marc Jacobs for this cover photographed by Mario Testino and styled by Nicola Formichetti, in which artist Dan Colen interpreted the iconic “V” using bubble gum as his medium.
In total, V Magazine collaborated with 4 New York based artists for their creative take, and Colen’s is the first to be released for this exclusive preview. V67 hits newsstands TODAY, September 2nd.
“Sure, Rents Are Insane, There’s Nowhere to Party, Everyone Hates Everyone, The Subway’s A Nightmare, It’s Way Too Hot, It’s Way too Cold, The Knicks Suck, and Smokes Cost $13 a Pack. But the Big Apple is Still the Best Damn City in the Universe, And the Only Place Where You Can Be Anything You Want to Be When You Want to Be It. These 26 People Are Making The City Their Own Way.”
That’s right, Jo Calderone, the new Italian face, currently scheduled to appear in the upcoming Vogue Hommes Japan Vol. 5, is Lady Gaga’s alter-ego and how she is able to avoid the paparazzi when she needs.
Captured on set during the cover and editorial shoot for the September issue of Vanity Fair, this is Nick Knight’s latest fashion film for SHOWstudio.com starring the incomparable Lady Gaga in an array of custom-crafted couture from fashion’s finest, including a rather incredible transparent plastic Armani Privé ensemble – a make-believe fantasy frothing with very real smoke.
