HABIBI NYC by FRANCOIS ROUSSEAU
November 29, 2009

These images are part of the series entitled HABIB, NYC, photographed by well renowned photographer Francois Rousseau for the Médicis project in 2002.
HABIB, NYC is a mix of realistic portraiture and fictional composition, focusing on a 20-year old boxer living in Brooklyn and a young interracial gay couple from Manhattan which YVY will show you in the next few days. The brilliant work won the Villa Médicis Hors Les Murs/AFAA award 2002 and in 2004 the images were collected in a book.

The purpose of the Association for Africanist Anthropology (AFAA) shall be to stimulate, strengthen, and advance anthropology by promoting the study of Africa, as well as Africanist scholarship and the professional interests of Africanist anthropologists in the U.S., and both in and outside of the African Continent.
