Arts: Meryl Donoghue
April 1, 2009

Meryl Donoghue works is breathtakingly well formed. Recently Graduated from Bath Spa University with a First in Fine Art and awarded the University Prize for her degree show. Enticing you into a twisted fairytale world of transformed figures, Meryl’s work is beautiful and disturbing at the same time. Meryl’s creations begin as pencil drawings, which she then brings into life through a mix of photography, scanning and digital manipulation until their final, super-glossy form.

“My work explores the idea of mortality and makes reference to closely associated topics such as the pursuit of the transcendental dimension, the notion of bereavement and the complexity of emotions that loss evokes. I am heavily influenced by folklore, mythology and the idea of narrative. I aim to tell a story through my work, to construct a fanttasy that will create intrigue and lure the viewer into a world of my own creation”.
Meryl Donoghue’s premier UK solo exhibition ‘Once Upon A Lie…’ at Stolen Space Gallery from Thursday 30th April – Sunday 10th May.
